Choosing the right tutor is a way for parents to show support and care.
Students hate writing because they’ve been disenfranchised. They are told to write about things that are of no interest to them. Or they are continually drowned in a flood of suggestions and critique. I helped children who think they hate to write by helping them see that writing is an extension of their interests. I use what a student loves to break through and help them see that writing can be meaningful to them, not just an assignment from the teacher.
The Mindful Tutor understands that skills taught does not equal skills learned and that every child needs his or her own personalized approach to learning. Therefore, every child receives an individualized program geared to his or her needs and interests. With a mindful approach, we can get to what’s really going on and make learning moments easier for everyone.
